Nursery kids chew over new menu

It was move over Masterchef as some of our toughest food critics gave their verdict on the new Go Fresh menu for nurseries.

Almost 40 three and four year olds from nurseries across South Lanarkshire assembled in the Banqueting Hall at council’s headquarters in Hamilton for a special tasting session.

They tried a range of dishes including fish pie, savoury mince, pizza and fish cakes and used electronic voting pads to share their opinion.

Isabel Veitch, the council's Facilities Service Advisor, said: “It is important that the food provided in our early years establishments is healthy and nutritious but equally vital that the children will eat it and enjoy it. This tasting session was an opportunity to hear the honest opinion of our target audience. You do not get much more honest opinions than those of three and four year olds.

“I am delighted to say we seem to have got things right with the new menu items getting a positive response.”

Please watch our film to find out what they really had to say about the new menu.

And Carole Wright, our Early Learning and Childcare Lead Locality Officer, added: “We have a close relationship with our colleagues in Facilities Services who provide school catering and this was a worthwhile exercise to ensure a recipe for success for our nursery menus.

“We are very grateful to the parents and carers who consented to their little ones taking part and to the staff from the nurseries who travelled with them to Hamilton.”
