SGN (Scottish Gas Networks) has begun the final stage of its upgrade to the gas network in the Muir Street area of Hamilton.
The £74,000 project involves essential work to replace the old, metal gas mains with new plastic pipe.
Work began today (Monday) and will continue for seven weeks.
There are two phases to the work:
Phase one – approximately 3 weeks
Cadzow Street will be closed near its junction with Muir Street. Access for residents will be maintained at all times, and a signed diversion route will be in place for motorists.
Phase two – approximately 4 weeks
On Monday 29 January 2018, work will take place on Muir Street between its junction with Lower Auchingramont Road and Lidl supermarket. To allow the SGN engineers to work safely the carriageway heading up the hill towards Bothwell Road will have one lane closed.
SGN will be working extended hours and at weekends to complete the work as quickly as possible.
