SGN will shortly be starting work to upgrade the local gas supply network in Kingsway (A749), East Kilbride.
They are investing £41,000 to replace the old gas mains and services with new plastic pipe to ensure a continued safe and reliable gas supply to the local area.
In consultation with South Lanarkshire Council and Scotland Transerve, the work will start on Monday 7 May and last for approximately four weeks.
They'll be working on a section of Kingsway (A749) north of Whirlies Roundabout. Work will begin just after Whirlies roundabout and progress northward, along the A749. The work will end just before the pedestrian crossing.
To ensure the safety of their engineers and road users, the section of the road they'll be working on will be reduced down to one lane in both directions.
SGN Engineering Manager Alistair Allan said: “We’ve worked closely with the local authority in planning this work and we will be doing everything we can to limit disruption during our essential project.
“We appreciate that roadworks can be frustrating, however, the new plastic pipe has a minimum lifespan of 80 years. This means once the work has been completed, East Kilbride homes and businesses will enjoy the benefits of a continued safe and reliable gas supply for many years to come.”
