Young volunteers from across South Lanarkshire are being given a surprise reward for their hard work.
Young people who volunteer their own time to support sports, dance and fitness activities in schools are being rewarded with complimentary tickets to the European Championships.
South Lanarkshire Council is funding the tickets in recognition of the contribution made to their communities by pupils who participated in South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture's Leadership programme during the Year of Young People.
Around 140 Young Leaders will get tickets to European Championship finals events taking place in Glasgow and Lanarkshire from Wednesday 8 August to Sunday 12 August.
Leader of South Lanarkshire Council Councillor John Ross said: "The young volunteers have done a fantastic job supporting clubs and activities and being great role models and inspiration for younger pupils. While they give their time freely we felt that is would be appropriate to reward them with tickets for the European Championships where they can themselves be inspired by some of the world's top athletes."
Chair of South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture Councillor David Watson said: "We are very fortunate to have this sporting event right on our doorstep during the Year of Young People and I am delighted that the council has been able to arrange for all our Young Leaders to have the opportunity to attend the European Championships."
In addition to tickets the Young Leaders will also receive funding towards travel and food.
