SPT vice chair and council officials at launch of care share park and ride scheme

A scheme has been launched to encourage rail passengers to car share on their way to Hamilton West, Carluke and Newton stations.

Signs are now in place at all three station car parks to promote the JourneyShare scheme.

SPT vice chair Denis McKenna said: "Encouraging drivers to share a car to our Park and Rides at train stations can go a long way to cutting congestion so I am delighted that SPT JourneyShare is joining forces with the council to get the scheme up and running.

"Car sharing is also a fantastic way to save money. You not only cut down on fuel costs, which are dearer than ever before, but you also increase the lifespan of your car by using it less.

"And it is a brilliant way to protect the environment by reducing exhaust emissions so I would urge as many people as possible to give it a go."
