Road closed at Horsley Brae
Published Friday 13th January 2012
A stretch of road at the junction of the A71 Horsley Brae and the B7011 Brownlie Road is to be closed for preparatory work.
The work will see boreholes and trial pits being taken to provide information on the ground conditions to ensure future improvements are designed appropriately.
To allow access for the drilling rigs there will be traffic signals controlling Horsley Brae and Brownlie Road will be closed between Horsley Brae and Cardies Bridge.
The work, which is being undertaken in partnership between South and North Lanarkshire Councils and SPT, will begin at 6am on Monday 16 and is expected to be completed by midnight on Friday 20.
Councillor Chris Thompson, the chair of South Lanarkshire Council's Enterprise Resources Committee, said: "We apologise in advance for any inconvenience these vital works may cause.
"I would ask that anyone who is using the area takes note of the restrictions in place and follows the appropriate diversions."
The following diversion route will be in place:
Vehicles on the west side of the closure should proceed north-eastwards along A71 Horsley Brae and A71 Main Street, generally eastwards along A721 Wishaw Road, southwards along A73 Airdrie Road, and generally south-westwards along B7011 Wildman Road, B7011 Station Road & B7011 Brownlee Road to the east side of the closure.
Vehicles on the east side of the closure should proceed vice versa.
Councillor James Coyle, Convener of Planning and Transportation with North Lanarkshire Council added: "Both councils have worked together to make changes to the road layout here which will ease the congestion at the Horsley Brae junction.
"I would ask drivers to be patient during the five day road closure and allow extra time for their journeys."
