Festival for the young at heart
Published Tuesday 17th January 2012
Anyone in the 50+ age group are being encouraged to take part in the seventh annual Young at Heart festival.
Following the overwhelming success of the past six years, the festival celebrates the arts as engaging and accessible for all with a wide variety of events taking place throughout South Lanarkshire from Thursday 15 March until Saturday 24 March.
And due to its ever-increasing popularity the festival gets underway even earlier than before and lasts a fabulous 10 days.
This year sees the return of many of our popular events including 2 o'clock recitals which are free to all, a craft fair, exhibitions and tea dances.
There is also a range of new courses and workshops including the chance to have a go at pot throwing or silk painting.
We have more performances than ever before with our usual mix of theatrical events and a host of Scotland's most loved entertainers including Dean Park at Rutherglen Town Hall and Dorothy Paul at Hamilton Town House.
In addition, The Alexander Brothers will tour venues throughout South Lanarkshire where they will present an afternoon of chat and song.
And look out for Arts in the Park at Chatelherault Country Park on Sunday 18. As always, this promises to be a fabulous event on the first Sunday of the Festival. Grandparents, 50+ aunties and uncles and the more mature relatives in the family are encouraged to bring the family for a day out at the park where there will be a wide range of activities for all.
Look out too for the travelling gallery, a mobile exhibition which will again be visiting different locations throughout the area.
Copies of the Young at Heart brochure are available at libraries and South Lanarkshire Leisure & Culture venues. Or you can call Hamilton Town House on 01698 452299 and ask to have the brochure mailed out to you.
Places are limited for most events so advance booking is advisable!
