Workers get redundancy support

More than 600 people made redundant from construction firm WJ Harte are being invited to an event to help them back into work.
And anyone else in the area facing redundancy or has recently been made redundant is also invited to come along to the event in the council's Banqueting Suite, Council HQ, Almada Street, Hamilton on Monday 23 January.
Organised by the Partnership Action for Continuing Employment (PACE), the event will run from 11am until 2pm with advice on benefits and tax credits, career guidance, supported job searches, advice on business start-ups, local training opportunities and alternative employment in the area.
Face-to-face help and advice will also be on offer from organisations including Skills Development Scotland, Jobcentre Plus, South Lanarkshire Council, Business Gateway and Routes to Work South.
Michael Cummins of Skills Development Scotland, PACE Chair Lanarkshire, said: "Dealing with redundancy can be a daunting experience. In order to respond to these tough times, and help those who have been made redundant, it is vital that we provide the workforce with the necessary support.
"The local PACE team will work closely with people affected by redundancy in an aim to minimise the time they are out of work."
