One act play festival comes to a close

Theatre groups from across Scotland have taken part in East Kilbride Rep Theatre's famous Festival of One Act Plays.
Groups from Rutherglen to Bressay in Shetland and Killin, Stewarton, Bowhouse (near Grangemouth) and Greenock descended on the town for EK Rep's 29th annual week-long competition.
And it was obvious from the audience's reactions over the week, that they thoroughly enjoyed the wide selection of the plays on offer.
At the prize-giving EK Rep's President Jean Macmillan thanked everyone who had organised and helped and not only the clubs many of whom who had travelled far, but also for the support of the audiences over the week of the Festival.
And Dr Paul Dougall, PhD, who presided over the adjudication, said he was really impressed with the writing, especially Rutherglen Rep which had performed three plays, two of which had be written by their own Isabella Rae.
Dr Dougall, who has had years of experience as a drama teacher/lecturer and was also the University of Strathclyde's Head of Department of Applied Arts, said: "I have been educated in coming to East Kilbride. I got from neurotics and psychotics to wit and womanly wiles from the range of plays presented at this festival.
"It was particularly nice to see such young actors coming through and showing real potential such as Ross Aitken of the Greenock based company Thistle Theatre Company and other talent brought forth in the plays throughout the week."
Dr Dougall said that although the standard was very high over all, Stewarton had pulled out all the stops and succeeded in getting Best Play, Best Actress and Best Staging awards.
