Road workers resurfacing road

Resurfacing works get underway next week on Main Street and Hamilton Road, Bothwell.

The work, which will take place between Monday 2 and Friday 13 July, will be carried out along the stretch of Main Street and Hamilton Road from Fallside Road to Bothwell Road/Bellshill Road roundabout (at Bothwell Bridge).

The work will be carried out over three phases. A 10mph convoy working system will be in place over the two week period. Work will be suspended at weekends.

The 'Repave' process, which will be carried out by Colas Ltd, is a road recycling technique which reduces CO2 emissions, waste and energy consumption. It also tends to be a quicker process than traditional resurfacing methods.

Councillor Chris Thompson, the chair of the council's Enterprise Resources Committee, said: "We apologise in advance for any inconvenience these works may cause.

"We have carefully programmed them to take place during the school summer holiday period when traffic flows are reduced. This will hopefully reduce the impact on road users, businesses and residents.

"Whilst we will make every effort to accommodate local businesses and residents, some disruption will be inevitable and we would welcome your co-operation during the works. We would ask that people who cannot avoid the area leave a little longer for their journeys."
