Block of flats

An increase to the number of social housing flats to be built in Uddingston has been approved.

Previous consent was given for 40 flats to be built at a site to the south side of Hornal Road close to its junction with Bothwell Road/Uddingston Road.

At a meeting of South Lanarkshire Council's Planning Committee, approval was given to increase the number of flats which will be constructed from 40 to 60.

The application is a joint venture between Lynett Leisure Properties Ltd and Clyde Valley Housing Association.

All 60 units within the development will be available for use as social rented housing. Slight changes to the original design of the flats were also approved at today's committee.

Chair of South Lanarkshire Council's Planning Committee, Councillor Hugh Dunsmuir, said: "As a council we recognise the need to provide housing to meet the needs of the local community.

"The approval of this additional number of flats to the existing application proves that as a Council we are serious about meeting the needs of the community.

"The area where the flats will be built are close to local amenities and services, as well as providing good access to the road and transportation network. It is an ideal site for this type of development."
