Roadworks on A706 Harelaw to Forth
Published Friday, 27 July 2012
Major resurfacing works get underway on the A706 Harelaw to Forth road next week.
Phase 1 will be the north side of Harelaw Roundabout along the A706 to Croftlea/Harelaw Farm. This phase will start on Monday 30 July and will last until Friday 3 August 3. The closure will be from the A706 Harelaw Roundabout to the A706 Yieldshields Road Junction.
A diversion route will be in place which will see vehicles on the A706 travelling north from Lanark turning left onto the A721, travelling through Carluke to the A73 junction, turning right and travelling north to the A71 junction in Newmains, then turning right onto the A71 before travelling on to the A706 junction at Breich before finally turning right onto the A706. Vehicles travelling in the opposite direction should travel vice versa.
Phase 2 will be the south side of Harelaw Roundabout and will take place from Monday 6 August until Thursday 9 August. The closure will be from the A706 Harelaw Roundabout to the A706 Cleghorn Level Crossing. Diversion signing will be in place and the alternative route for each Phase will be signposted.
Councillor Chris Thompson, the chair of the council's Enterprise Resources Committee, said: "We apologise in advance for any inconvenience these works may cause.
"We have carefully programmed the work over the summer holiday period to help reduce the impact on road users, businesses and residents.
"I would ask that drivers try to avoid the area on these dates but if they cannot then they should leave a little longer for their journey."
