Major resurfacing works get underway along the A749 Glasgow Road in East Kilbride from Saturday 8 September.
The work will take place between Kingsgate Retail Park and Cathkin Roundabout with temporary traffic management in place during the works which is expected to be completed by Sunday 16 September.
The northbound (Glasgow bound) carriageway will be closed and a contraflow system using the southbound carriageway will be in operation from Saturday 8 until Monday 10.
And from Tuesday 11 until Sunday 16 the southbound (East Kilbride bound) carriageway will be closed with a contraflow system using the northbound carriageway.
Access to the Kingsgate retail park will be via the Kingsgate roundabout with the rear entrance/exit closed.
Councillor Chris Thompson, the chair of the council's Enterprise Services Committee, said: "The A749 is a major route in and out of East Kilbride and we would warn road users to expect delays.
"Unfortunately major works like this cannot be undertaken without some disruption although we will endeavour to keep the traffic moving as freely as possible.
"I would ask that all road users avoid the area if at all possible and if not that they leave a little longer time for their journeys.
"We apologise in advance for any inconvenience these essential works may cause."
