Safety works to begin on bridge

Work will get underway on safety improvements to the Cander Bridge on the A71 next week.
The work to replace the existing steel parapets on the bridge near Stonehouse, which have suffered serious corrosion, will begin on Monday 17 September and is expected to last for around six weeks.
However, the A71 will remain open to vehicles and pedestrians with temporary traffic lights in place to control the traffic flow.
Councillor Chris Thompson, the chair of the council's Enterprise Services Committee, said: "We apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused by these works, however the safety of the public remains our top priority.
"The completion of the works will ensure that this important transportation link continues to be available for safe usage for many years to come.
"The contractor will be working seven days a week to try and get the works completed as soon as possible.
"I would ask that all road users avoid the area if at all possible and if not that they leave a little longer time for their journeys."
