A wide range of sports activities are taking place next week to promote the annual European-wide 'Move Week' campaign.

Among the many events taking place during from 1-7 October, South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture is running a Fun Family Duathlon at Biggar Sports Centre at 5pm on 4 October.

The aim is to get as many people as possible to take part in this run-bike-run event which involves a 1.5km run then cycle 5km followed by a final 1.5km run. This event is for all levels and abilities but participants must be aged 10 years and over.

Participants must pre book their space for this event and will be notified of their start time. To avoid disappointment, please book now by calling Biggar Sports Centre on 01899 222066.

Hamish Stewart, the chair of the Board of South Lanarkshire Leisure & Culture, said: "We have organised free 'Come and Try' events at our venues across South Lanarkshire.

"The events feature a wide range of fitness classes, activities and sports and aim, through promotion of existing activities available or new sessions coming onboard, to give people of all ages and abilities, from babies to the more mature among us, the opportunity to try something new.

"It is our hope that participants will enjoy the activities they take part in so much that they will continue with them into the future to help promote an ongoing healthy lifestyle."

The participating centres are Jock Stein Centre, Hamilton, Alistair McCoist Complex, East Kilbride, Lanark Lifestyles and Fernhill Community Centre, Rutherglen.

For more information on all of the events please go to South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture's Move Week page or call Senior Sports Development Officer Mairi McLaughlin on 01698 476130.
