The first major refurbishment of Hamilton Water Palace since it opened almost 20 years ago gets underway at the end of October.
Work, which is fully funded by the council, is set to begin on the £439k upgrade on 29 October and will include the upgrade of:
- pool changing, including disabled, family booths and school class changing areas
- renewal of pool floating floor
- new sauna cabin
- health suite area
- renewal of flooring in several areas
- updating of electrical infrastructure
The dry side facilities including the cafe, gym and fitness rooms will remain open to the public for the duration of the works.
However, the wet side facilities will be closed to the public until early 2013.
Councillor Hamish Stewart, the chair of the council's Community Services Committee, said: "Opened in 1995, Hamilton's very own Water Palace has been providing fitness and fun for the people of the area for almost 20 years.
"This £439,000 investment is fantastic news for the people of Hamilton and beyond. It reflects the commitment we have made to providing high quality leisure facilities and services which will widen opportunities for our residents to pursue healthy lifestyles."
Advice on alternative facilities in the Hamilton area during the closure period can be found on the South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture website.
