Parking permit changes for East Kilbride
Published Thursday, 11 October 2012
The number of homes requiring parking permits in East Kilbride is to be reduced by around two thirds next week.
New regulations which come into force on Monday 15 October will see the current 4367 homes with permits being reduced to just 1589.
Letters have been sent to every household who currently have a permit to underline exactly what the changes will mean for them following proposals to reduce the numbers was agreed by the council's Executive Committee last year.
Since then the proposals have been going through the statutory Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) process which allowed residents the chance to have their say on the proposals.
And with that process now complete the new regulations will now come into force.
The changes include the removal of all permit restrictions from the streets in the Kelvin zone and a large reduction in the size of the Murray, Westmains and Westwood zones. Avondale and Whitemoss zones will remain unaltered.
Councillor Chris Thompson, the chair of the council's Enterprise Resources Committee, said: "I am sure these changes will be welcomed by the vast majority of residents affected by them."The decision to reduce the number of permits required shows that as a council we are prepared to listen to what people say.
"I would ask everyone in the areas affected to carefully read the letter they should now have received and take note of the changes."
It should be clear whether a householder has to do anything but if anyone is unclear they can email the Parking Unit or call 01698 453637.
