Jim Gilhooly new head of Education

Jim Gilhooly

Jim Gilhooly has been appointed as the new Executive Director of Education Resources.

He will take up his post in January following Larry Forde’s retirement.

Jim has been with the council for eight years and has worked as Depute Director for the last five years.

Jim’s career started in South Lanarkshire when he took up his very first teaching post at John Ogilvie High School in Hamilton. He also worked briefly at Blantyre High School as an English teacher.

He enjoyed a number of positions throughout Lanarkshire and then Glasgow before taking up the post of Head Teacher at St Stephen’s High School in Inverclyde. He worked there for nine years, the latter two on secondment as Head of Service in the Education Department, with responsibility for the implementation of the 2001 National Agreement (McCrone Agreement).

From Inverclyde Jim joined South Lanarkshire Council as a Head of Learning Community and worked in the Cathkin, Holy Cross and John Ogilvie learning communities for four years before taking up his post as Depute Director of Education.

Jim is married to Karin who is the Head Teacher of Glenwood Nursery in East Renfrewshire. They have two grown up children.
