Visions for the Mind: feeling and meaning in art

Visions for the Mind: feeling and meaning in art

We are delighted to announce the re-opening of our Fives Court Gallery following significant refurbishment, with an engaging and thought-provoking exhibition focussing on a selection from our varied art collection.

Visions of the Mind: feeling and meaning in Art is Low Parks Museum’s newest exhibition, officially opened at the start of July by Council Leader John Ross.
The brainchild of curator Mike Taylor, this important exhibition examines artistic intention, while calling on the viewer to examine their own responses to art on display. A selection from South Lanarkshire’s collection stands comfortably beside significant loans from the Royal Academy and the National Galleries of Scotland, allowing every visitor to experience nationally significant works of art in an eminent, local setting.

The exhibition was made possible following significant funding from Museums Galleries Scotland, to upgrade the display equipment within the historically important Fives Court Gallery, opening up the 4 Star venue to future temporary exhibitions and displays from across the museum/galleries sector and beyond.

A programme of activities and events for all ages has been especially designed to support Visions of the Mind. Hamilton’s own Martin Stepek, one of Scotland's foremost Mindfulness teachers, author, poet and founder of Ten for Zen, will lead a bespoke Mindfulness in the Museum session while the innovative and original Freerange Artfarm will be working with two groups to deliver Mindful soundscapes, inspired by the artwork on display.

A full programme of associated talks and events will complement this inspiring exhibition. Please check our Facebook page and online events pages or contact Low Parks Museum for more information.
