Council Tax - exemptions, discounts and increases (unoccupied properties)

Property has been repossessed or held by a trustee in bankruptcy

If the property has been repossessed by a mortgage lender or the title has been transferred to a trustee in bankruptcy you may be able to reduce your Council Tax bill by 100%. 

For bankruptcy applications, the following criteria will apply:

  • The property must be unoccupied and owned by the person who has been made bankrupt
  • The property is not the sole or main residence of any person
  • An interest in the property is vested in a permanent trustee
  • No other person is liable for Council Tax in respect of the property
