Applying for a nursery place
We are working hard to provide a flexible service for parents and carers. And from August 2020 a total of 1140 hours will be available to all 3 and 4 year-olds.
The Government provides funded early learning and childcare places for all 3 and 4 year olds and eligible 2 year olds. These places are provided through our own nurseries, through funded partnership providers and childminders in the private and voluntary sectors.
Children who are 3 between 1 March and 31 August are eligible for the 1140 hours funded place starting from 13 August 2020.
If your child’s birthday falls between September and February 2021 you can access a funded place from the Monday following their 3rd birthday.
The deadline for applications for the year ahead is 28 February 2020.
This deadline applies for any child who is starting nursery sessions from 13 August 2020. The deadline also applies if your child's 3rd birthday falls between August 2020 and February 2021.
Finding your nursery
The Locate It mapping service can also be used to find information on local nurseries by using your postcode or address - the plus and minus signs on the top left of the screen can be used to see the Council-run nurseries (marked with N) and funded providers (marked with PP).
How to apply
Once you have decided which nursery you want your child to go to, you should contact the nursery to apply. Application forms are available from all Council and funded provider nurseries.
Your first choice is not guaranteed so you should indicate a second and third choice on your application form. Only one application should be submitted per child.
Offer of place letters for August 2020 will be posted to parents late May 2020. If your circumstances change or you want to transfer to another nursery you should fill out a transfer form available from the nursery.
