Registering a birth

Tell us once

The Tell Us Once service means that one of the council's registrars can help a new parent through a step-by-step process that will automatically notify central and local governments of a change in circumstances. 

It will help if you bring the following information with you:

  • the parent's named on the birth certificate National Insurance number, date of birth, address and phone number
  • details of any benefits they are receiving or have applied for
  • the partner of the person named on the birth certificate National Insurance number or date of birth (if they live in the same household)
  • details of any benefits they may be receiving

You must obtain the permission of the persons listed above if you are going to provide information about them.
