New council homes on the way in Larkhall
Published: Thursday 9 October 2025
Work has started on a range of homes in Larkhall which will help support independent living.
A total of 19 homes will be built in Watson Street, on the site of the former McWhirter Care Home and Nesbitt Day Centre.
More than half of the homes (11 in total) will take into account specific care need, with wheelchair accessibility, structural hoist capacity, space for carers and dedicated accessible parking spaces.
There will be a mix of one, two, and three bedroom properties, with a four-bedroom home also built.
In addition, four three-bedroom semi-detached homes with three full size double bedrooms will provide additional family accommodation for the area.
And four two-bedroom terraced homes will provide opportunities for those seeking smaller properties to meet their needs.
Chair of the council’s Housing and Technical Resources Committee, Councillor Davie McLachlan, said: “This progressive housing approach means that specific housing needs identified through working in conjunction with colleagues from the South Lanarkshire University Health and Social Care Partnership are met.
“This includes accessible housing and all property types within the site being easily adapted to suit the changing needs of individuals or families over time.”
The project has been jointly funded by the council and the Scottish Government’s Affordable Housing Supply Programme. All properties on the site will be allocated in line with the council’s Housing Allocation Policy.
The contractor for the site is CCG (Scotland) and it is anticipated the homes will be completed in late 2026.
A spokesperson from CCG (Scotland), said: “We are delighted to be working with South Lanarkshire Council once again to bring much-needed affordable homes to Larkhall.
“This development will help to address the demand for modern, energy-efficient housing in the town, while also supporting tenants with specific housing needs to promote greater independence and comfort.”
