Food hygiene information scheme
How well did a food business do
The food hygiene information scheme helps you choose where to eat or buy food safely. It shows how well a food business meets food hygiene rules based on its most recent inspection.
Food businesses such as restaurants, cafés, pubs, takeaways, hotels and food shops are inspected by us. After the inspection, each business is given a result so you can quickly see how they performed before deciding where to eat or shop.
What the results mean
After an inspection, a business will receive one of the following results:
- Pass
The business meets the legal requirements for food hygiene.
- Improvement required
The business needs to make improvements to meet legal standards.
- Awaiting inspection
A new business or a business under new ownership that has not yet been inspected.
Some very low‑risk businesses are exempt from the scheme.
Where to find the result
We give businesses a certificate showing their result. Many display this on their door or window so you can see it before going inside.
You can also search for food hygiene inspection results for businesses in South Lanarkshire online.
Things to keep in mind
The result reflects conditions at the time of inspection. Standards may change between inspections, so the scheme gives you a helpful guide rather than a guarantee.
If you have a concern about food hygiene at a business, you can report it to us for investigation.
