Welcome to this week's Financial Inclusion Network news

The Financial Inclusion Network is an informal group of over 250 members taken from the Public and Third Sectors which covers all areas of South Lanarkshire.  This network is to share information from a wide range of themes. We hope to provide a new update each week that can be accessed by all members at any time to see what is going on in the area under the headings below. If you would like an item included within our weekly news, please complete our short online form here: https://forms.office.com/e/Ht5w7iAuFi.  For further information, please email communities@southlanarkshire.gov.uk

Money is not the only problem – Money

Having enough money to get by can be a big issue for people. This section looks at how you may be able to get more money in, either through benefits or fair work, and how you might be able to cut your bills in some ways.

There is more information further on about support for people looking for employment.

Financial Inclusion Network (FIN) - Event

This year’s Financial Inclusion Network (FIN) event is being held on Tuesday 21 May 2024 from 9.30-11.30.  The meeting will be held in the Whitehill Neighbourhood Centre, 9 Hunter Road, Hamilton, ML3 0LH.

The meeting will provide all FIN members, old and new, the opportunity to meet and network with each other.

Due to the current Cost of Living Crisis the fight to Tackle Poverty and Inequality becomes even more important.  The Speakers reflect this and represent the three FIN Sub Groups.

A range of equipment has been provided to help run a community kitchen – thanks to the Community Wish List.

Abington Community Development Group, a local organisation who have recently taken over the Old School House in the village as a community asset transfer, made the request for the equipment.

Wish for new lap tops granted

New laptops are to help local people who are unemployed, and disadvantaged young people, to find work.

Charity Skills Exchange SCIO, who are based in East Kilbride but also work in Blantyre, Clydesdale and Larkhall, requested the new laptops as the ones they were using were old and unable to download the latest software updates.

A grand boost for wellbeing in the community

A Hamilton community group has taken a relaxed approach to a cash boost from the council’s Participatory Budgeting (PB) fund.

That’s because a PB award of £1008 – voted for by local people - has enabled Supporting Our Community (SOC) to deliver holistic therapy training courses in Reiki levels one and two and advanced crystal healing class.
