Savings 2016-17 Automatic Public Conveniences COR07 - Equality Impact assessments
Title
Savings 2016-17 Automatic Public Conveniences COR07
Council Resource
Community and Enterprise
Service Area
Community and Enterprise
Aims and Objectives
This saving would see the ending of leases of 3 Automatic Public Conveniences in East Kilbride, Law and Lanark and
these toilets would close on 30 April 2016 when the leases expire. This would realise a saving of £0.89m
There are no staffing implications are part of this saving.
Conclusion
The usage of these Automated facilities has been monitored and found to be low. Whilst we acknowledge that there
could be a negative impact on some users especially in the age, disability and pregnancy and maternity categories, it
has been established that there is alternative provisions in the areas affected by the closures, therefore, the impact is
likely to be limited. Alternative provision can be found for example in other Council facilities e.g. Q & A's , libraries,
leisure centres as well as supermarkets, cafes and restaurants. The full impact of this removal of service will not be
fully known until implemented and we will monitor the impact using the Council's complaints procedure.
Taking all of the above into account, it is considered that any impact on equality groups will be limited and saving
justified.
