EDR08 - Financial Savings 2024-2025 - Mentoring and Learner Journey Reserves / MCR Pathways
Council Resource
Education
Aims and Objectives
This proposal is to utilise reserves that were identified for mentoring support and improved learner journey experience for vulnerable young people as a saving.

A current programme operates via MCR Pathways funded via the Scottish Government and SEF.  A permanent saving can be achieved by considering options around removing the existing MCR programmes and other support within schools.

This is a saving of £0.380m; and a reduction of 9 FTE posts. This proposal can be achieved in 2024/2025 as a one-off contribution from reserves.
Conclusion
This service focuses on young people of secondary school age, primarily with a care-experienced background. The implications of this savings proposal are a potential reduction in the provision of one-to-one mentoring for some young people. However, this could be mitigated be referring young people back to traditional models of support e.g. Guidance/Principal Teacher Pupil Support, Counsellors and/or Head of Year.

The conclusion of this impact assessment is that there is potential for a negative impact on care-experienced young people of secondary school age.
