Consultation summary and background | This research is about understanding how climate change affects people in South Lanarkshire, especially those who are most vulnerable. The study is led by Sage Kuhens as part of a PhD in Climate Justice at Glasgow Caledonian University. The aim is to make sure that everyone is treated fairly as we work towards reducing carbon emissions. This process is called a ‘just transition.’ Results from the study will help South Lanarkshire Council make better decisions on how to support communities during the transition to net zero emissions. The research will be shared in 2026, and the information you provide will be used to help improve policies that affect everyone in South Lanarkshire. |
Why are we consulting? | The aim of the study is to understand who is vulnerable to climate change in South Lanarkshire and what actions should be taken to ensure that the transition to net zero carbon emissions is fair to everyone. The study is being conducted by Sage Kuhens at Glasgow Caledonian University as a part of an educational course for the award of PhD in Climate Justice. |

How will findings be used? | The findings of this study will be synthesised to support the production of Local Development Plan 3, with particular focus placed on mitigating and adapting to climate change. They may also be published anonymously for academic reference. |
