A Foundation Apprenticeship gives you the chance to gain real work experience while still at school. Studied in S5 or S6 alongside your other subjects, it combines learning at college with time spent in the workplace, leading to a qualification at the same level as a Scottish Higher.

Who can take part

You can apply if you are in S5 or S6, can work at SCQF level 6, and meet the entry requirements for your chosen course.

What you will study

You can choose from a range of subjects. Full course details and entry requirements are available in our Foundation Apprenticeship directory.

How the courses are delivered

You can study over one or two years.

Two‑year option:

  • Year 1: Two half days at college each week.
  • Year 2: One half day at college and one full day with an employer.

One‑year option:

  • Two full days out of school each week, split between college and an employer.

You will work towards industry‑recognised qualifications. During your placement, an employer mentor will support you.

Where you can study

Courses are delivered with South Lanarkshire College and New College Lanarkshire. Course options vary by campus.
