Crawford and Elvanfoot Community Council Election 2026

Notice is hereby given that at close of the nomination period for those seeking election to the Crawford and Elvanfoot Community Council, being 24 June 2026, there were nomination papers received for 10 candidates. In terms of South Lanarkshire Council’s Scheme for the Establishment of Community Councils there is provision for 8 elected places on the Community Council. Therefore, a contested election must be held. This will be by secret ballot. Polling will take place between the hours of 2pm and 8pm on Thursday 23 July 2026 for the election of 8 Community Councillors in the Crawford and Elvanfoot Community Council area.

Any person whose name appears on the current register of electors for the Crawford and Elvanfoot Community Council area and who has attained the age of 16 years of age on or before polling day is entitled to vote. The Polling Station for the election will be Crawford Hall, Carlisle Road, Crawford ML12 6TW.

Voters cannot vote on behalf of another resident.

The ballot paper will allow each elector up to 8 votes. The elector will place a cross against the name of their preferred candidates up to the maximum permitted.

As soon as the elector has done so, the elector will place the ballot paper in the box provided at the Polling Station.

The counting process will be held in public and the Returning Officer’s staff will count the votes at the close of poll at 8pm in Crawford Hall, Carlisle Road, Crawford ML12 6TW.

  • If you cannot go to the polling station and wish to vote by post please contact the Administration Manager, South Lanarkshire Council on 01698 454196 or email communitycouncils@southlanarkshire.gov.uk no later than Friday 17 July 2026 by 12 noon.
  • You must return your vote by post to reach the Elections Office, Beckford Street, Hamilton ML3 0AA by not later than 5pm on Thursday 23 July 2026. Alternatively, you may hand your postal vote in to Crawford Hall during the hours of poll.
