Integrated Impact Assessments

How we assess the impact of our decisions

We use integrated impact assessments (IIAs) to make sure our decisions are fair, informed and consider the needs of our communities. They help us understand how new plans, policies and proposals may affect different people before we make a decision. IIAs bring together earlier equality impact assessments (EQIAs) and other legal checks into one clear process.

What an integrated impact assessment does

An IIA looks at the possible effects of a proposal across areas such as equality and fairness. It builds on earlier EQIAs and combines them with other required assessments in one place.

This helps us:

  • understand who may be affected
  • identify risks or unintended impacts
  • reduce negative effects where possible
  • meet our legal duties
  • make better, balanced decisions

We use this process when planning and reviewing services.

Earlier equality impact assessments

Before IIAs were introduced, we carried out equality impact assessments (EQIAs) separately. These looked at how decisions could affect people with protected characteristics.

You can still view these earlier assessments on our EQIA pages to see how decisions were considered at that time.

Why this matters to you

IIAs help us think about how decisions affect residents, especially people who may face barriers or have different needs. By combining EQIAs with other assessments, we take a more complete view and improve how we plan services.

Older equality impact assessments (from before we introduced integrated impact assessments) are also available.

Take part and have your say

You can review these assessments to understand how proposals may affect you and your community. We encourage you to take part in consultations and share your views.
