South Lanarkshire Council wifi

You can use our free guest wifi in selected South Lanarkshire Council buildings. It is open to everyone. To get online, connect your device to the wifi network and accept the terms and conditions. Your session will end after a set time, so you may need to reconnect if you stay longer.

How to connect

1. turn on wifi on your device.
2. choose the council guest wifi network from the list.
3. read and accept the terms and conditions.
4. start browsing.

If your session times out, simply reconnect and accept the terms again.

What to expect

We aim to provide a reliable and secure service, but we cannot guarantee that the connection will always be fast, continuous or available. The wifi may occasionally be slow or drop out.

This service is not suitable for tasks that need a constant, uninterrupted connection, such as large downloads, video calls or secure work systems.

If your connection drops while downloading a file, you may lose your progress. Save your work regularly and back up important information.

Your safety online

We take steps to keep the network safe, but public wifi always carries some risk. We recommend that you:

• use up-to-date antivirus software
• turn on your device’s firewall
• avoid accessing sensitive accounts, such as online banking, on public wifi
• keep your passwords private and secure

You are responsible for any activity carried out on your device while connected.

Acceptable use

You must use the guest wifi in a responsible and lawful way. We may block or restrict access to certain websites or services to protect users and the network.

You must not use the service to:

• access or share illegal, harmful or offensive content
• spread viruses or harmful software
• interfere with the network or other users
• harass or threaten other people
• promote violence, hate or discrimination
• take part in online gambling
• carry out illegal activities or learn how to do them

If you break these rules, we may restrict or remove your access to the service.

Service limits and responsibility

We monitor and maintain the wifi service, but we cannot promise to fix faults within a set time. We are not responsible for any loss, damage or disruption caused by using the guest wifi.

This includes loss of data, slow speeds, or connection problems.

Privacy and data

We do not collect personal information about you when you use the guest wifi. However, we do collect some technical details from your device, including:

• your device’s unique identifier (MAC address)
• general categories of websites accessed

We use this information to monitor performance, manage usage and improve the service. It is not used to identify you personally.

When you click to continue and access the internet, you agree to follow these terms and conditions. If you do not follow them, we may remove your access.
