Youth work, Youth Council and Universal Connections centres

Activities, support and ways for young people to get involved

Young people in South Lanarkshire have many opportunities to come together, learn and have fun in a range of settings.

Youth work helps young people:

  • develop skills and confidence
  • build positive relationships
  • play an active role in their communities

Our approach

Services for young people are planned with young people. This helps make sure activities:

  • meet their needs
  • take place at the right times
  • happen in locations that work for them

Youth Council

The South Lanarkshire Youth Council ensures that young people have a voice at both local and national levels.

The Youth Council is made up of young volunteers aged 12 to 25. It provides opportunities for young people to meet, share their views, and help influence how services are shaped and delivered by organisations such as:

  • South Lanarkshire Council
  • Police services
  • The health board

What the Youth Council does

The main focus of the Youth Council’s work is the South Lanarkshire Youth Strategy.

Youth Councillors represent the views of young people on a range of current issues, including:

  • health and wellbeing
  • youth‑friendly services
  • learning and working
  • rights
  • the environment

Youth Councillors also represent young people at national events, conferences, and major youth forums, such as the Scottish Youth Parliament.
