School transport

If your child is not entitled to free school transport, or does not travel from their permanent home address, you can apply for a privilege transport place.

Privilege transport is only available where there is a spare seat on an existing school transport contract.

Before you apply

Privilege transport:

• is only available on existing school transport routes
• uses existing pick-up and drop-off points
• will not result in new pick-up or drop-off points being added
• is not available where a service bus is used for the school journey

Please note:

• a privilege transport place can be withdrawn at any time if it is needed by a pupil who qualifies for free school transport
• all privilege transport places end on 30 June each year
• you must submit a new application each year

Who can apply?

You can apply for privilege transport if:

• you live outside South Lanarkshire and your child attends a South Lanarkshire school
• you live in South Lanarkshire, your child attends a South Lanarkshire school, and they do not qualify for free school transport

How places are allocated

If there are more applications than available places, we will allocate seats using the following priorities.

Priority 1

Pupils whose family circumstances have been affected by a health condition affecting their immediate carer.

Supporting evidence will be required from an appropriate agency, such as the NHS or Social Work.

Priority 2

Pupils whose family circumstances have been affected by a significant change in their home life.

Supporting evidence will be required from an appropriate agency, such as the NHS or Social Work.

Priority 3

Pupils entitled to free school meals.

Available places will be allocated to those living furthest from the school until all places have been filled.

Priority 4

Pupils whose permanent home address is within the school's catchment area.

Available places will be allocated to those living furthest from the school until all places have been filled.

Priority 5

Pupils whose permanent home address is outside the school's catchment area.

Available places will be allocated to those living furthest from the school until all places have been filled.

When transport starts

Allocated places will normally begin when pupils return to school after the October break.
