Lodge notice of marriage or civil partnership
How to lodge your notice

Lodge your marriage or civil partnership notice
If you plan to marry or form a civil partnership in South Lanarkshire, both of you must send us a notice. We use this to check your documents and prepare your marriage or civil partnership schedule.
How to send your notice
You can send your completed forms and documents:
- by email to civilceremonies@southlanarkshire.gov.uk
- by post to Licensing and Registration Services, Floor 11, Council Offices, Almada Street, Hamilton ML3 0AA
When emailing, include your ceremony date and venue in the subject line, attach your documents as files, list how many you are sending, and add a daytime phone number.
We do not accept documents in person.
When to send your forms
Send your notice 8 to 10 weeks before your ceremony, and no later than 29 days before.
If immigration rules apply, the notice period can extend to 70 days, so send your forms 11 to 12 weeks in advance.
Do not send forms more than three months before your ceremony date.
What you need to provide
Along with your notice forms, you must send:
- proof of your address
- your birth certificate
- your valid passport or proof of nationality
If you were previously married or in a civil partnership, include proof that it has ended.
You should also complete a witness details form. You can get forms from the National Records of Scotland website or any registration office.
Before your ceremony
We must see your original documents before issuing your schedule. We will arrange an appointment at our Hamilton office so you can confirm your details and collect your paperwork.
Take the next step
Send your notice forms and documents by email or post. If you need help, contact us using the details above.
