Citizenship ceremonies
Arranging your citizenship ceremony
What you need to do
If you have been accepted as a British citizen, you must attend a citizenship ceremony. When you receive your invitation letter from the Home Office, contact our Licensing and registration services to find out when the next ceremony will take place and what to do next.
What we will check
When you get in touch, the registrar will:
- confirm that your citizenship certificate has arrived at our office
- ask how many guests you would like to bring. You can usually bring two guests. Please ask if you would like more. Children are welcome, but we recommend bringing someone to look after them who is not taking part
- check whether you want to make an oath or an affirmation. You can choose an affirmation if you prefer not to swear by God
What happens next
As soon as your certificate arrives, we will write to you with an invitation to the next group ceremony. This may be sooner than you expect.
