Self-directed support (SDS)
Option 2

What is Option 2?
Option 2, known as an Individual Service Fund, gives you choice and control over your support, without you having to manage the budget yourself.
You decide what help you get and who provides it, while your budget is held and managed by us or another organisation.
How does Option 2 work?
You work with your lead worker to create a support plan and agree your budget. Option 2 has benefits if you would like choice and control, but don’t want to manage the budget.
Under Option 2:
- we or another organisation hold your budget for you
- you choose the type of support you receive
- you choose the provider you want to work with
- your support must link to the outcomes you agreed in your plan
We will set up an agreement between you, us, and your chosen provider (if you have one). This agreement explains:
- your outcomes
- your budget
- how your money will be managed
Who can choose Option 2?
Option 2 is available to anyone eligible for social care support, including:
- children and young people
- adults
- older adults
- unpaid carers who qualify for support
- people acting on someone’s behalf (such as people with Guardianship Orders giving them legal powers)
Depending on where you live, there may only be a few organisations that can hold and manage your budget.
Where can I get help with Option 2?
South Lanarkshire Council commission GCIL to provide support in relation to all the SDS options, and they will be able to support you if you are considering Option 2.
