Falls detector factsheet
The Fibby Fall Detector is worn on the wrist like a watch. The Vibby fall detector aims to call for help, reducing the time the wearer spends lying on the ground after a fall. It is designed to automatically detect significant or heavy falls where the wearer is unable to return to a standing position.
Automatic fall detection
A heavy fall involves four steps:
1: A person is standing in an upright position
2: They experience a sudden loss of balance
3: They fall with significant impact with the floor
4: They are lying on the floor, unable to press the manual help button on the fall detector or stand up.
After a heavy fall, when the wearer is lying on the ground without activity and unable to press the push button manually, the fall detector will vibrate with a blinking LED for 20 seconds before sending an alert to the alarm receiving centre.
Manual alarm
At any time, a manual alarm can be triggered by a simple press of the push-button. The alarm is confirmed by a vibration and LED light.
Stopping the alarm
- The wearer can cancel the alarm by covering the fall sensor completely with the palm of the hand for 2 seconds.
- After a fall, if the wearer stands up and remains standing for more than 6 seconds, the alarm will automatically be cancelled.
Limitations
Vibby fall detectors, like all other fall detectors, will not detect all falls or reduce the number of falls. The fall detector will not activate in the following scenarios:
Soft falls: Gentle falls with minimal impact
Slumping falls: Gradual falls where the body slumps down
Controlled falls: Falls where you use a wall or chair to control your descent.
