How a fall detector works
A Vibby fall detector is a wrist device that can automatically call for help if you have a heavy fall and cannot get up. It aims to reduce the time you spend on the floor by quickly alerting our alarm receiving centre. You can also press the button at any time to call for help yourself.
How automatic fall detection works
The detector is designed to sense significant, heavy falls. It looks for four things:
- You are standing upright
- You lose your balance suddenly
- You hit the ground with force
- You remain on the ground and cannot press the button
If this happens, the detector will vibrate and flash for 20 seconds. This gives you time to cancel the alert if you do not need help.
If the alert is not cancelled, it is automatically sent to the alarm receiving centre so we can contact you and arrange support.
Using the manual alarm
You can press the button at any time if you feel unwell, unsafe, or need help.
The device will vibrate and the LED will light up to confirm that the alarm has been sent.
How to cancel an alarm
You can stop the alarm in two ways:
- cover the front of the detector with your palm for 2 seconds
- stand up and stay standing for more than 6 seconds after a fall
Limitations to be aware of
No fall detector can identify every type of fall. The Vibby will not activate for:
- soft falls with little or no impact
- slumping or slow, gradual falls
- controlled falls where you hold onto furniture or a wall
