Parking on public roads

You can park on a public road as long as there are no traffic regulations in place and you aren't obstructing anything.

If your vehicle is causing an obstruction the police will issue the penalty.

If it is parked in a bus or taxi lane our Parking Unit will issue the ticket.

How to report a parking obstruction

The Council does not have powers to take enforcement action against obstructive or inconsiderate parking as this is the responsibility of the police.

We only have the powers to deal with parking in areas where there are yellow lines or waiting is time limited to say 30 minutes or 2 hours. Such restrictions are not applicable in residential areas.

If vehicles are parking in such a manner as to cause an obstruction Police Scotland have the necessary powers to deal with this. Please phone 101 for non-emergency enquiries or see Police Scotland Contact us.
