What happens after you submit a placing request
After you submit your placing request, we will send you acknowledgement of receipt within five working days.
If you do not receive an acknowledgement, contact Education Resources Support Services on 0303 123 1023 or email edsuppserv.helpline@southlanarkshire.gov.uk.
How we make our decision
We will consider your application and let you know the outcome within the timescales shown on the School placing requests page.
We try to meet parental preferences whenever possible. However, there are times when we may not be able to offer a place at the school you requested. For more information about the reasons a request may be refused, see our Grounds of refusal page.
If your request is approved
If your placing request is successful, we will confirm when your child can start at the school.
For requests relating to the next school session, please refer to the timescales shown on the School placing requests page.
If your request is refused
If we cannot offer a place, we will write to explain why.
If we refuse a request for an August start, we will continue to consider it until the first day of the August term.
The refusal letter will include information about your right to appeal and how to begin the appeals process.
Appeals process
You or someone acting on your behalf can present your case to the Appeal Committee.
If the Appeal Committee does not uphold your appeal, you may have the right to appeal to the Sheriff.
There is no right of appeal to the Sheriff for early-entry placing requests. Information about further options will be provided with the decision letter.
For information about appeals, email EducationAppeals@southlanarkshire.gov.uk.
If you submit a new placing request
If you submit another placing request for the same child, we will stop considering your previous application and assess the new request instead.
