If care is provided by someone not employed to do so (for example, a family member), you must provide a benefit award letter confirming the cared for person receives a qualifying benefit, they need the level of care stated and both the carer and cared for person live at the address as their main home.
Acceptable evidence includes:
- a GP letter confirming the medical condition and that at least 35 hours of care per week is needed
- a care benefit award letter for both the carer and the person receiving care (if in payment)
- proof that a care package is in place
If care is provided by someone who is employed to do this (for example through a local authority, employer or charity), you must upload a letter from the care provider confirming details of care provided.
The letter should confirm:
- the carer lives at the property as part of their job
- what care they provide
- hours worked, weekly pay, and start date
