Please complete this form to apply for a 10% second home discount. Please note that this discount can only be awarded for periods prior to 1 April 2024. This discount does not apply to the water and wastewater charges. From 1 April 2024 second homes are subject to a 100% surcharge, resulting in a 200% council tax charge. Water and wastewater charges are not subject to the surcharge.
You will be asked to provide evidence with your application. Please have this to hand before you begin. You can upload a scan, PDF or photo of this. Please make sure all the details can be seen clearly before uploading.
We require copies of the following with your online application:
- A Council Tax bill (or similar, if not in the UK) if your main residence is not in South Lanarkshire. If your main residence is in South Lanarkshire, you do not need to provide this as we can check our own records and
- Gas and electricity bills (in your name) for the unoccupied property. These should be for the period in question to confirm the property remains connected to utilities and
- Your home insurance policy showing the property is insured as a second home/holiday home/a property not permanently occupied and
- At least one of the following (relating to the unoccupied property), which indicates that the property is occasionally in use:
- TV licence
- TV package bill
- Landline phone or line rental bill
- A letter from a neighbour confirming the property is normally unoccupied. This must include the neighbour’s name, address and contact phone number or email address
- Any other evidence that could be relevant to the application
