Energy costs reduced after improvements at flats

Substantial improvements have been made to blocks of council flats in Blantyre.
The £1.4 million investment at 48 properties at five flatted blocks at Camelon Crescent will reduce the energy costs for residents living in them.
The council appointed contractor GMG to carry out the works, which included a new high-performance cavity wall fill insulation coupled with new external wall insulation and rendered finish.
Triple glazed windows were installed, along with a new continuous mechanical extract ventilation to kitchens and bathrooms.
All balconies received specialist concrete repairs, a new liquid plastic waterproof covering and new metal balustrade railings.
New insulation was put in the loft spaces, along with replacement roof tiles, fascias, soffits and rainwater goods.
New secure door and door entry systems, an upgrade to the common electrical systems to meet current standards, new energy-efficient common lighting, new fire doors to flats, and general redecoration was also carried out within the common stairwells.
Chair of the council’s Housing and Technical Resources Committee, Councillor Davie McLachlan, said: “Not only is there a dramatic improvement to the appearance of the flatted blocks, many of the residents have already commented that their flats are far warmer and that their heating is required much less than before.
“This work underlines our commitment to providing the highest quality of housing for our council house tenants.”
GMG Contract Manager, Gary McGinn, said: "We're absolutely delighted with the final result of our work at Camelon Crescent, and we're thrilled to have delivered a high-quality project for South Lanarkshire Council.
“Most importantly, we're pleased to have improved the living environment for the residents, and we hope they'll enjoy their upgraded homes for years to come."
