Request food waste collections
All households in South Lanarkshire can receive free food waste collections using a burgundy bin. Collections take place every two weeks and help reduce the amount sent to our energy from waste facility.
If you do not currently receive a food waste collection, you can use the form on this page to request the service.
Who can request this service
All households in South Lanarkshire are eligible. There is no charge for the burgundy bin or for food waste collections.
What happens after you apply
After you submit the request form:
- we will arrange delivery of your burgundy food waste bin and food caddy if required
- your address will be added to the food waste collection schedule
- if you live in a flatted property, we usually provide a shared food waste bin for the building, we only provide individual bins where there is enough space to store them safely
Once your request has been processed, it may take up to 4 weeks for your collections to start and for your address to appear on the bin schedule. Bin deliveries can take up to 12 weeks. Collections will begin once your bin has been delivered.
What you can put in your food waste bin
You can use your burgundy bin for most cooked and uncooked food waste from your home, such as leftovers, fruit and vegetable peelings, bread and dairy products.
We only collect items in the brown bin that can be composted, so please only use biodegradable bags for your food waste. You can buy these from local shops and supermarkets.
For a full list of what you can and cannot put in your bins, please visit the bins – what goes in them.
