Business Improvement Districts (BID)

Local non-domestic ratepayers voted for the Hamilton, and Lanark Business Improvement Districts (BIDs). All eligible non-domestic ratepayers must pay an annual BID levy based on the rateable value of their property.

Billing

The Non-Domestic Rates (NDR) team issues BID bills at the start of each BID year:

• Lanark – September
• Hamilton – November

Bills are due immediately unless you agree on a payment arrangement with the NDR team.

If you do not pay your bill, a 10% statutory penalty may be applied, and your account may be passed to Sheriff Officers for recovery.

Appeal a BID levy bill

• You can appeal your BID levy bill within 28 days of the bill date.
• Appeals must be submitted in writing and must include the full reasons for your appeal.

How to pay

We cannot accept American Express or Electron cards.

Direct Debit

• Your payment will be taken in a single instalment on the 1st of the month after the bill is issued.
• Use our online form to set up or change your Direct Debit.

Online

Use our secure online payment service. Select Business Rates and enter your:

• 14‑digit account number
• account name (as shown on your bill)
• card details

Phone

Pay by card through our 24‑hour payment call centre, 0303 123 1005. Choose the option for Non-domestic rates.

Online banking

Send payments to:

• Sort code: 83‑22‑26
• Account number: 00146582
• Quote your 14‑digit account number.

Paypoint

You can pay in cash at any Post Office or shop displaying the PayPoint sign. Use the barcode on the front of your bill.
