Business Improvement Districts (BID)

Local non-domestic ratepayers voted in favour of the Hamilton Business Improvement District, Carluke Business Improvement District and Lanark Business Improvement District. All eligible non-domestic ratepayers are liable to pay an annual BID levy based on the rateable value of their property.

The council's non-domestic rates team issue BID bills at the beginning of each new BID year, which is September for Lanark and November for Hamilton. The Carluke BID ended on 30 September 2019 so no new annual bills will be issued for this BID. These bills are due for immediate payment unless arrangements are made with the non-domestic rates team to pay over a longer period.

All non-payment of bills will be pursued by the council, with a potential additional 10% statutory penalty and Sheriff Officer involvement. Contact the non-domestic rates team with any bill enquiries.

You can appeal against your BID levy bill, in writing, listing the full reasons for the appeal, within 28 days from the bill date to: Head of Facilities, Waste and Ground Services, Community and Enterprise Resources, Montrose House, 154 Montrose Crescent, Hamilton ML3 6LB.

Direct Debit

Payment is taken in a single payment on the 1st of the month after the bill is issued. Use the form below to set up a direct debit or to update your bank details.  


You can use our secure online payment service.  Use the link for Business Rates and enter your 14 digit account number from your BID levy bill, account name (the name on your BID levy bill) and credit or debit card details.


Payments can be made by credit or debit card over the phone.  Contact our 24-hour payment call centre and follow the options for non-domestic rates payments

Online banking

Payments and standing orders can be made direct to the council's bank account:  sort code 83-22-26, account number 00146582. Please quote your 14-digit account number from your BID levy bill.


Use the barcode on the front of your bill to pay in cash at any Post Office or shop displaying the Paypoint sign.
