Add someone to your tenancy
This page explains how to add another person to your council tenancy. If you are the only tenant named on the agreement, you can apply to make someone a joint tenant. This means you would both share the rights and responsibilities of the tenancy.
Before you apply
You must get written agreement from:
- the person you want to add
- any existing joint tenant or partner living with you
We will contact them to confirm their agreement.
Adding someone is not automatic. We only refuse requests when there is a clear reason. We will tell you our decision within 28 days.

How to apply
Both forms must be completed before we can process your request:
- You, as the current tenant, must complete the tenant form
- The person you want to add must complete the join a tenancy form
We cannot consider your request until we receive both forms.
