Roads in winter

Flooding

If you are concerned about flooding, you can contact us at any time for advice or support. Acting early can help reduce risk and keep you informed about what to do next.

Who to contact

If you notice flooding or are worried about flooding in your area, call:

  • 0800 24 20 24 (available 24 hours a day)

You can also contact your local Roads office during office hours for advice on roads and drainage issues.

Get flood alerts

If you live in an area at risk of flooding, you can sign up for free flood alerts from the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA).

Floodline alerts will:

  • warn you about possible flooding in your area
  • help you prepare in advance
  • keep you updated as conditions change

Signing up can give you more time to take action and stay safe.

Understanding responsibilities

Flooding can happen for different reasons, and responsibility depends on the location and cause. For example, it may relate to roads, rivers, drains or private property.

You can find more information about this, including who is responsible for different types of flooding, on our flooding advice and support pages.
