Scottish Water changes start date of emergency road closure
Published: Friday 8 October 2021
Emergency work to repair a collapsed sewer in Union Street, Hamilton, will now start a week later than first advertised.
Union Street will now be closed from Monday 18 October from its junction with Auchingramont Road up to its junction with Auchincampbell Road to allow these works to be carried out safely.
However, Scottish Water have also advised that as an alternative solution is now being used for the repair work, the work is now expected to take around seven weeks for completion instead of the original estimate of eight weeks.
The extensive repairs will be carried out by Scottish Water’s contractors George Leslie. The road will be re-opened as soon as the work has been completed.
Due to the urgent nature of these works by Scottish Water, temporary traffic management will be in place throughout the closure period.
Road users are asked to follow the diversions via Almada Street, Muir Street, Palace Grounds Road, Blackswell Lane and Duke Street. Please allow additional time for any detours to your journey arising whilst Scottish Water carries out the work.
Scottish Water is discussing the works with local residents, businesses and the schools (Hamilton Grammar and St Johns Primary School) to mitigate any inconvenience as much as possible.
Access will be maintained to the school and dwellings at all times as well as pedestrian access.
The council will be actively monitoring the works and will ensure the road is opened as soon as it is safe and practical to do so.
