A public meeting is to be held regarding proposals for Appledore Nurdery in Bothwell.

Cash boosts have been agreed for pre-school provision, to fund a new cycle lane and improve pathways a popular local park.

The projects were agreed as part of a £173,000 net increase in South Lanarkshire Council’s capital programme for this year, taking the amount being invested in the area’s infrastructure in 2021-22 to £83,477,000.

The latest additions to the programme include:

•    External shelters to be built at a number of the area’s early years establishment to help facilitate outdoor play;
•    Temporary nursery accommodation at Bothwell Primary School, St John the Baptist Primary School in Uddingston and St Bride’s Primary School in Cambuslang;
•    Additional money to add to work already planned to carry out essential works on the paths at Calderglen Country Park; and
•    Funding for design work on a new cycle route through Fallside Road and Bellshill Road in Bothwell and to upgrade existing cycle routes in the area.

The additions to the capital programme were agreed at a meeting of the council’s Executive Committee on Wednesday.

Councillor Gladys Miller, Finance and Corporate Resources chair, said: “The council continually monitors its spending, both on everyday services but also on longer-term capital projects. This allows us to sometimes introduce new projects or increase funding for others, so that we can better meet the needs of local residents.”

The committee agreed another adjustment to the programme to progress improvements to audio visual equipment in the Council Chamber and Committee Room1, to facilitate council meetings involving members attending in person or remotely.

The additional funding totals £537,000 but it was agreed that two projects to the value of £364,000 would slip from 2021-22 into the 2022-23 capital programme, leaving the net increase at £173,000.
