Improvements on way for road in Stonehouse
Published: Friday 27 January 2023
Major improvement works are to take place on a road in Stonehouse.
The carriageway patching will start on Saturday 11 February from 8am on the A71 Strathaven Road from its junction with Sandford Road to the New Bridge (120m west of Muirburn Road).
The works are scheduled to be completed by 8pm on Tuesday 14 February, depending on weather and resources.
Chair of South Lanarkshire Council’s Community and Enterprise Resources Committee, Councillor Robert Brown, said: “We apologise in advance for any disruption these works will cause.
“Unfortunately, the road is not wide enough to safely maintain vehicle access while the works are underway.
“General traffic will be unable to travel through the closure during the works, although we will try to maintain access for businesses and residents who live or work within the closure wherever possible.
“However, there may be lengthy delays if you are trying to access or leave the area, so we would suggest you park your vehicle outside the road closure prior to works starting if you want to avoid this.
“Traffic Marshals and site staff will be there to advise and assist residents during the working day.
“Please try and avoid the area if possible, and if not, be sure to leave extra time for your journey.”
An extensive diversion route, which will be clearly signposted, will be in place for the duration of the works.
